Mindfulness
Mindfulness is about understanding yourself and being “in the moment.” Sometimes this is through meditation, when you look inward and reflect on our thoughts, feelings, bodily sensations, and surrounding environment, through a gentle, nurturing lens. It’s not meant to be judgmental, there is no right or wrong way to feel or think. It is meant to be more self reflective, for example to get really mad when you lose a pen, but the lost pen wasn’t what you were upset with initially, it just took you over the edge at that point.
A lot of people tell me they didn’t realize how tight and stressed their muscles had become until I start working on them. We try ignore muscle pain, “walk it off,” putting it out of our mind until our body has normalized that feeling, instead of listening to what our body is saying with the pain in the first place.
Letting all the stress and tension manifest in the muscles can also become to much and lead to muscle strain or even damage such as tears. Through out the day, just try to check in with your body,
Do you need to drop your shoulders or relax your jaw?
Do you need to lean forward and relax your low back?
Are your calves or feet tense?
Of course massage can help with all of these problems and I am more then happy to take care of you, but becoming mindful of how your body is reacting to your daily stress can go a long way for your overall healing.
